A Modern Transcendentalist - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1309 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2019/07/01 Category Philosophy Essay Level High school Topics: Transcendentalism Essay Did you like this example? The common denominator of the universe is not harmony, but chaos, hostility and murder†. Great minds like Thoreau preached that humanity is harmonious with nature. In reality this was not their point. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "A Modern Transcendentalist" essay for you Create order They sought nature as an escape from a society they found flaws in.Timothy Treadwell seemed to be truly harmonious with nature. For 13 years he lived among the bears in the Alaskan wilderness. With his video camera, he captured moments much closer, and personal than any journalist could dare. The camera was his only defense from nature. He became an overnight celebrity and activist for animals. In fact Treadwell never charged a fee when he talked at schools. He enjoyed his work so much, it was a passion and a way of life, not a career or scheme. Yet the story behind Treadwell goes much deeper. Treadwell grew up missing something, he felt as if civilization wasn’t for him. After college he turned to alcoholism to â€Å"cure† himself from the ever corrupting world. Treadwell’s rage is almost incandescent. He fights civilization itself. Just as Thoreau had in Walden, Tredwell turned to nature to awaken the unwakeable inside him. He seemed to connect with animals in a way he couldn’t connect with people. Treadwell pursued the Alaskan wilderness and quickly became fascinated by bears. He was all alone, except for his video camera. â€Å"The camera was his only present companion. It was his instrument to explore the wilderness around him. But increasingly, it became something more. He started to scrutinize his innermost feelings, his demons, his exhilarations. Facing the lens of a camera took on the quality of a confessional†. In front of his camera, Treadwell seemed to show his inner thoughts. His problems with relationships, and his desire to get away from it all. Treadwell said â€Å"I’m in love with my animal friends. I’m in love with my animal friends. I’m in love with my animal friends. I’m very, very troubled†. He knew his problems. It wasn’t ignorance that killed him, Treadwell merely killed himself. Treadwell may just have been the true modern Transcendentalist. Cast out of the same shadows that summoned minds like John Muir and Thoreau into the woods. Muir himself stated â€Å"I am losing precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of m en. I must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news†. Tired of society these men took to the woods to escape it all. Treadwell was not very different, and I think the wilderness was calling his name. Thoreau wrote in Walden â€Å"All men want, not something to do with, but something to do, or rather something to be.† Treadwell needed to be somebody. And his inner struggles from his past made it all worse. Treadwell’s carelessness seems to spark from this very idea. It wasnt that he wasn’t afraid of the bears, but simply his inner problems were more harmful than the bears in his mind. He was not ignorant, just incompetent. â€Å"For once there is weakness they will exploit it; they will take me out; they will decapitate me; they will chop me up into bits and pieces. I’m dead. So far, I persevere† said Treadwell. His hatred for society was deep. He was willing to risk it all to fight for his â€Å"cause†. The only thing stopping him from truly escaping it all was Park Services, who were truly concerned of his well being. To Treadwell, they were the adversary. Treadwell ranted in front of his video camera â€Å"How dare they challenge me. How dare they smear me with their campaigns. How dare they, when they do not look after these animals themselves. And I come here in peace and in love—neutral, in respect. I will continue to do this. I will be an American dissident if need be. There’s a patriotic time going on right now, but as far as this fucking American government is concerned: Fuck you, motherfucking park service. Fuck you.† In his mind, Treadwell was a martyr in the fight against society. He knew what he was he doing, but his hatred was so deep. Deep enough that it meant more than his life to him. As the filmmaker Werner Herzog points out, through Treadwell’s camera, he wasn’t capturing wild nature, but the meaning of his life, and frankly death . Treadwell was never able to connect with people well. After college he struggled to make friends, and turned to alcohol. For years he was consumed by alcohol, as if his life had no purpose. In fact his alcoholism was sparked by his isolation. He was never good with women, and I personally believe this is where his problems started. â€Å"I’ve always wished I was gay. It would have been a lot easier.† Treadwell said. In the wilderness, he believed he had finally found true companions; the bears. He named all the bears he encountered, and he centered his life around them. Of course the reality was different. Herzog sums it up perfectly; â€Å"I see only the overwhelming indifference of nature. To me, there is no such thing as a secret world of the bears. And this blank stare speaks only of a half-bored interest in food. But for Timothy Treadwell, this bear was a friend, a savior†. Because bears couldn’t criticise Treadwell, they became his dearest friends. He had found his something to be, his pseudo-purpose. Why didn’t the bears attack Treadwell? You may ask. Maybe he was a true companion, and was harmonious with nature? Or maybe it was just natures disinterest in Treadwell because he was such an outsider. As the coroner puts it, the bears might have thought he was retarded, and let him be. Whatever the reason, Treadwell was able to get much closer to the bears, than anyone e lse in documented history (who wasn’t being attacked). â€Å"O God of love, o King of peace. Make wars throughout the world to cease†. These very words from a hymn written in 1697 might describe Treadwell’s actions. Was Treadwell a true martyr like the face of Jesus Christ? Many argue he put a spotlight on Park Services, and their mistreatment of nature. He also pinned down on for society as a whole, respecting nothing but nature, but in ways he may have done more harm than good. Humans and bears have a certain attitude towards each other that goes back centuries. They fear us, and we fear them. By interacting with these bears, Treadwell may have changed the way bears view humans. If a bear showed up on your lawn, because he was no longer afraid of you, I believe it was for the worse. Treadwell’s real enemy was himself. â€Å"I would never, ever kill a bear in defense of my own life† Treadwell stated. He was so lost in his own mind being fed up with society that he accepted death for his fight against it. Treadwell couldn’t refuse the bear, just as Jesus couldn’t refuse the cross. Treadwell’s â€Å"something to be† had a huge price tag. Thoreau did not give his life for the woods. He had basic respect for his life and society. Treadwell on the other hand was different. Treadwell was not a Martyr. He was fighting for an unworthy cause with essentially zero support with no results. I believe his mission was more to figure out his own life, and seek his fate, than to truly protect nature. It wasn’t that he was harmonious with nature, but that he cared so little, that he would enter the â€Å"danger zone† to get closer than anyone before. The lesson to be had here is not that societal ties are unbreakable.

Fda s Recent Approvals Of Pd 1 Pathway Drug Treatments

Section A: FDA’s recent approvals of PD-1 Pathway drug treatments The mechanisms observed from various preliminary studies have led researchers to determine that antibody mediated blockade of the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway should have positive effects on tumor regression. This has led to the development of various drugs to target the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway. In the last decade, checkpoint inhibitory drugs have been utilized to increase cancer survival rates by blocking the PD-1--PD-L1 pathway interactions . By blocking this pathway, various immune cells such as CTLs, NK, and DCs can properly detect cancer cells and trigger T-cell activation thus enabling tumor cell apoptosis. Numerous PD-1 inhibitors have recently been developed as therapeutic†¦show more content†¦Several studies have been conducted showing the effectiveness of the drug in Advanced-Merkel Cell Carcinoma and non-small cell cancer. In a study by Nghiem, a total of 26 patients with advanced Merkel-cell carcinoma re ceived a first line therapy with Pembrolizumab . All had either recurrent locoregional Merkel-cell carcinoma or distant metastatic cancer that were not receptive to surgery or radiation therapy. (45). No patients had previous received systemic therapy, however one patient had received adjuvant chemotherapy more than 6 months before the beginning of the study. Pembrolizumab was administered intravenously at a dose of 2 mg per kilogram of body weight every 3 weeks. Patients were evaluated every 4 weeks to assess progression. Treatment was continued for a maximum of 2 years. Following the study, the overall response rate was 56%, with complete and or partial responses occurring in 14 out of the 25 patients treated. (45). Similar results were seen in a study that evaluated the maximum tolerated dose, antitumor activity, and pharmokinetics of Pembrolizumab in patients with melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma. (46). A total of 30 out of 32 patients recruited received Pembrolizumab in various doses (1mg, 2mg, 3mg, and 10mg/kg respectively) intravenously every 2 weeks until tumor progression or toxicity occurred. They found no dose-limiting toxicities occurred and observed that two patients had completeShow MoreRelatedTreatment Of Metastatic Squamous Non Small Cell Lung Cancer1744 Words   |  7 PagesSquibb; For the treatment of metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer, Approved March 2015 WEDNESDAY, March 4, 2015 (HealthDay News) -- U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of Opdivo (nivolumab) has been expanded to include advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the agency said Wednesday in a news release. New York’s Midtown North Free Essays

New York’s Midtown North is made up of several precincts, with one unique in the city: the CPP, or Central Park Precinct. The precinct is home to 42 species of birds year round, with up to 300 species sighted there at various seasons, and there are also squirrels, birds, fish, rabbits, turtles, frogs and other animals. There are not, however, any human residents. We will write a custom essay sample on New York’s Midtown North or any similar topic only for you Order Now There is an enormous amount of human activity occupying the 840 acres of land and 150 acres of water. In addition to 58 miles of pedestrian paths, 6 miles of vehicle drives and almost 5 miles of bridle paths, there are also world-class attractions, including: 1. Tavern on the Green Restaurant 5. Loeb Boathouse (miniature sailboat club) 11. Bethesda Terrace and Fountain 14. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYPD Web site) The park itself was designed in 1858 by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux, two giants of architecture of the period. The nation’s first designated public park, Central Park is laid out so that, even when the park is full of people and events, there are hidden, quiet places as well as open fields. Although between 16 and 20 million people visit the park each year, it is possible to feel completely alone with nature among the park’s 26,000 trees. (One can also play tennis on 30 courts, or ball on 26 ball fields or swim in a pool at the northern end, or ride a merry-go-round not far from the Central Park Zoo.) (NYPD Web site) In addition, the â€Å"Delacorte Theatre has ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ from mid June through the end of August each year. The Central Park Summerstage, located at Rumsey Playground – E. 72 St. and the East Drive, has free performances from June through the beginning of August on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 pm. The New York Grand Opera has free performances at various times throughout the summer†(NYPD Web site). It seems that of all the precincts in New York City, the CPP is uniquely appropriate for Problem-Oriented Policing. In addition, because of New York’s position as a ‘world city’ and after 9/11, the NYPD has also benefited from learning how to ‘surge,’ a tactic that can be invaluable in a precinct where incidents are likely to happen at odd times at specific locations. Surging has lately been perfected for putative terrorist activities â€Å"At least three times a day, New York’s intelligence division sends 100 officers to swarm a specific location that their information suggests could be a target. It’s called a surge† (Montaigne, 2005). When a surge happens, officers spend the five or six hours after it fanning out into the neighborhood, shops and subway, asking questions and looking for anything suspicious. In 2004 and so far in 2005, there have been no murders in Central Park, and only one rape in 2005. Robbery, however, has increased, with none 6 in 2005 to date, and 4 in 2004. Felonious assault is down ho3wever, from 4 in 2004 to 2 in 2005 to date. There was one burglary in 2004, none in 2005 to date. Grand Larceny is also may be down for the year. In 2004 there were 11, with 7 in 2005 to date. Citywide, the murder rate is down, from 184 in 2004 to 161 in 2005 to date, for a 12.5 percent decrease at current rates. Rape is also down, from 627 in 2004 to 585 in 2005 today, a 6.7 percent rate of change. Robbery was up, however, from 7,638 for all of 2004 to 7,690 to date in 2005. Felonious assaults were down from 5,842 in 2004 to 5,430 t date in 2005, for a decrease of 7 percent. Burglaries were also down, from 9.981 in 2004 to 7,767 in 2005 to date, a 13.5 percent decrease. Grand larceny citywide was also down, although by only 1.8 percent, from 15,258 in 2004 to 14,976 in 2005 to date (NYPD Compstat). These statistics are surprising, in view of the difficulties inherent in patrolling Central Park. In 1965, poet Robert Lowell published a poem called â€Å"Central Park† that seemed to expose precisely what was happening then. each landscaped crag, each flowering hides a policeman with a club† (Quoted by Vitullo-Martin, 2003). Vitullo-Martin noted that â€Å"design elements that helped make the park a refuge from the city-secluded woodlands, hidden coves, paths that curve and dip from sight, Lowell’s flowering shrubs-also made the park hard to protect or patrol. Central Park’s fame and beauty made it a prized site for concerts, protests, marches, rallies and celebrations. But the huge crowds also attracted crime† (2003). Arguably, the factor that made the difference between then and now can be attributed to the characteristics of Problem-Oriented Policing. Compstat is an integral part of that strategy, showing police captains at a glance where the trouble spots are, both geographically and in terms of types of crime. According to Moore (2005), Problem-oriented policing (POP) â€Å"is a police management philosophy that entails SARA: scanning to identify, specify, and describe specific problems to include analysis in which the causes of the identified problems are explored fully and response that refers to the search for ‘tailor made’ solutions to remove the specific or general causes of the problems through implementation of concepts supported by assessment concerning the process where the solutions implemented are evaluated in terms of effectiveness and strategies.† Although Moore’s definition sounds overly analytical, in fact, POP depends for success on all the ‘buz zword’ tactics of modern business: values, ethics, communication, vision and empowerment. Glassoock, writing in the FBI Journal in 2001, noted that although POP initiatives have had an excellent affect on external, end-product issues-that is, reduction of crime-â€Å"it seems prudent and appropriate to also apply the concept to internal problems.† Glassoock contends that the likelihood of success with the end product is â€Å"much influenced, if not driven, by the organization’s internal constitution† (2001). A department must, he says, attend to internal issues with thoughtful deliberation. In addition, he recommends that so-called â€Å"outsiders† such as citizens and business leaders be invited to contribute to initiatives, and goes so far as to say that â€Å"To the extent that a police department remains open to the inclusion of these individuals, the likelihood of successful internal problem-solving increases† (2001). As noted, successful internal operations-including communication and empowerment, especially-are essential to producing the end-product, lower crime rates. New York City and especially the CCP, are heavily involved in just such efforts. Chief among its programs are an Auxiliary Police Unit consisting of men and women from 17 to 60 years of age. They patrol the park in uniform acting as the eyes and ears of the police. There are 42 members, whose work is supplemented by the work of 42 Parkwatchers, â€Å"concerned citizens who keep a watchful eye on the park. When criminal activity is observed they report it to the police† (NYPD Web site). It is obvious that CCP, perhaps more than other city precincts, interacts frequently and effectively with non-officer personnel who are trusted with important work. Another such outfit is the Roadrunners Safety Patrol. These helpers patrol in pairs and carry interwatch radios; there are 72 of them. An additional 70 New York Skaters Association members are also enlisted to provide information to the precinct (NYPD Web site). Perhaps the most famous of the groups assisting the CCP is the Guardian Angel Patrol. There are 61 Guardian Angels trained and enlisted. An essential part of the POP program is the Park Enforcement Patrol, or PEP. Established by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, it is a unformed patrol with the mission of providing safer parks, encouraging the public in the proper use of parks and discouraging the misuse and destruction of park property. â€Å"During the busy weekend and summer periods, and during all special events such as concerts and races, PEP officers patrol the park to help people enjoy the event and to keep order. If park users become ill or are injured, the PEP officer will provide first aid and request an ambulance and police. People in trouble and in need of assistance look for PEP officers. These specially trained officers also assist the N.Y.P.D. by enforcing quality of life violations in the park† (NYPD Web site). Working with them is the only volunteer ambulance service in Central Park, the Central Park Medical Unit, which responds to accidents â€Å"involving park users, bicyclists, rollerbladers, joggers, etc.. The Central Park Medical Unit assists the N.Y.C.E.M.S.† (NYPD Web site). The POP success doesn’t depend entirely on uniformed and/or trained volunteers, however. The CCP’s Robbery Reduction Unit consists of one Sergeant and five Police Officers who are deployed at â€Å"robbery prone locations† (NYPD Web site). Non-police work also becomes part of the mission in a POP-driven unit such as CCP. For instance, in concert the Central Park Precinct Youth Officers and Community Police Unit conduct truancy sweeps (NYPD Web site). While trying to keep kids in school, the precinct also tries to keep bicycles in the hands of their rightful owners. CCP runs a bicycle registration program in an effort to deter thefts (NYPD Web site). A unique N-Force is a unit consisting of one sergeant and three police officers that focuses on quality of life conditions; they are deployed at â€Å"areas that the precinct commander designates as priority locations† (NYPD Web site). In its dialog with the community, CCP also has a Community Council that meets with police officials to seek ways to solve local problems; the CCP council has 146 active members. Finally, CCP participates in a Thanksgiving Food Drive and a Winter Coat Drive, as well as Toys for Tots to help children in disadvantaged families (NYPD Web site). The first item on the NYPD mission statement is â€Å"To protect life and property, reduce crime, improve the quality of life while dealing with the citizens of this city with courtesy, professionalism, and respect† (NYPD Web site). It is apparent both from the crime statistics in this ‘global playground’ and the number, range and type of community and quasi-police organizations that communications, values, vision and empowerment are working in this highly unusual precinct, in which there are no residents, but only visitors of every possible type and intent. Glassoock notes that since the 1980s, â€Å"law enforcement agencies have applied the concept of problem-oriented policing to many community problems, such as alcohol-related crimes, burglaries, graffiti, sex offenses, and trespassing† all of which a precinct that was completely park and special-use structures would be prone to have. Glassoock notes that â€Å"Because POP emphasizes solving a problem as the dominant decision-making mode, officers attaining management positions must rethink their decision-making styles learned earlier in their careers. They must consider that the appropriateness of different decision-making styles varies depending upon whether officers are responding to calls or solving problems† (2001). It is apparent that CCP has been successful. How to cite New York’s Midtown North, Essay examples

Conference Management and Notification System †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Conference Management and Notification System. Answer: Introduction Event management is an essential part of todays world for smooth running of official or personal events. Official events can include conferences, seminars and meetings whereas personal events can involve wedding, birthday or anniversary (Bramwell and Bill). There are ample event management companies under event managers who are hired by individuals or organization to conduct the specific event in a smooth way. An event manager needs to be extremely creative in terms of planning an event because that is the main thumb- rule to get contacts for the next event. Apart from being creative, the event manager will have to take care of the crisis issues and the necessary steps for the management. There should not be any loop hole in the hospitality and reception of the guest because it poses a negative impact on the company reputation. An event manager cannot afford to reflect a bad image which will make his business standstill (Bales et al.). This particular report will analyze the event of an international conference held at the Geneva Business School. The senior students of the school have been assigned to arrange the 3- day long conference in an organized manner. The senior students have contacted a reputed event management company for conducting this particular event and making it a grand success. They were all the more cautious for the success of this event as it was their first opportunity to do something good for their school sake. They did not want to be blamed for any kind of mismanagement in the event. The main purpose of the conference was to present an opportunity to the students for investigating the role played by new employees in the improvement of organizational performance. The topic was decided on the basis of the contemporary situation when most of the students find them drowning in mid- sea after getting placed in an organization. It is a common problem that is not only faced by the students of Geneva Business School but other business schools too. This international conference was aimed to improve the condition of the students in the nations of the European Continent. All the reputed B- schools of the particular continent were invited to attend the conference and the dignitaries included professors, lecturers, principals of institutions and managers and leaders of organizations. There were other officials and recruiters from different companies who delivered strategic advices for the budding managers. This international conference based on the roles played by new talents for the betterment of organizational performance was very appealing to the present audience as it was a demanding topic by the students (Brigham, Eugene and Ehrhardt). The topic was aimed to benefit the students of the business schools in the European continent as they will be able to learn something apart from their theoretical curriculum. To get a first- hand training of the work atmosphere general reading of the textbooks and assessments are not sufficient. To bridge the gap in that definite area the students will need to look away from their textbooks and seek for practical knowledge. This international conference will help them to gather knowledge on the practical field by gaining insights from experts who have had many years of experience in the field of business management. Live examples from the workplace will enable the students to understand the situation in a better way. The lecture of the organizational managers will make the students realize the current market scenario and thus they will be able to groom themselves accordingly. The practical experience in the course of the event will provide a clear picture of the organizational perfor mance and the required expectations from the new employees by the managers. The feedback session from the students will also help the officials, managers and recruiters to understand what the employees expect to get in return from the organization. The students must not keep anything confidential while providing feedback as it will help the professors to structure the course curriculum in a way which will benefit the students in their career. The honest feedback from the students will help the managers too for modifying the organizational structure to take into consideration employee motivation and satisfaction (Cserhati, Gabriella, and Szabo). Timing and location of the event Timing and location is a very crucial factor in terms of managing an event. These are the two important factors which determine the success of an event. Attendance of people in an event is dependent a lot on the spatio temporal factors. The location and time of the event has to be chosen in such a way so that the place is accessible easily and the timing does not clash with any other event. For this particular international conference the event management company had to take into account a lot of things before selecting the venue of the event. They had to choose a location keeping in mind the accessibility and the convenience of the invitees to reach the place. Mandarin Oriental in Geneva was selected where the event was held as well as staying arrangements were made for the international students and guests. This particular hotel is situated in an amazing and serene location mixed with the spectacular view of mountains in the background along the gentle river Rhone vistas. This luxu rious 5- star hotel has a traditional Swiss ambience blended with the style, comfort and remarkable service which makes it a perfect place to stay back. It is centrally located with a minimal distance of approximately 6 km from the Geneva airport thus making it easily accessible for the foreign guests. It was convenient from the train station too which is why this hotel was selected for the event. Time is another critical factor which should be taken into consideration while managing an event. First and foremost, the even management company has to fix dates with the Geneva Business School and according to their convenience the selected dates were 4th February 2018 to 6th February 2018. These dates were suggested because the senior students will be relieved from the exam pressure by the end of December 2017 and will get time to prepare for the conference. These dates were also tallied with the hotel managers and the caterers and fortunately the rooms were free on those days. The host institution also booked the conference room for those three days and the hotel management gladly informed them that there is no rush in the first week of February as the peak season begins from the mid of the month. The students got divided into few teams to make the arrangements separately and easily. The inauguration of the event was scheduled at 9 am on 4th Feb which was a convenient time as the guests were arriving the previous day. The venue selected for the event was Mandarin Oriental in Geneva which was centrally situated and easily accessible both from the railway station as well as the Geneva airport (Catherwood et al.). The view from the hotel was extraordinary with a combination of gentle flowing river and the strong and sturdy mountain created an ambience of calmness and tranquility. This hotel was selected after a lot of confusion and the company was in a dilemma about the venue for a long time. There are not many options in Geneva when it comes to hotels for arranging such a grand event as international conference. The large parking facility in the basement of the hotel was really helpful for storing numerous cars and buses. The system of valet parking in the hotel is something worth praising as there are not many hotels in the area which provide this service. This fact was considered while making selection of the venue by the event manager because the guests would always feel laid back to find the par king area by themselves and keep their vehicles in a proper place. It is a complementary service that can be easily provided by the hotel management as well as make the guests happy. Along with these basic facilities we had also considered the accommodation such as the required number of rooms and if that will be sufficient for all the guests or not. The Mandarin Oriental also passed the test in this category because they had ample airy rooms with air- conditioned facilities, large washrooms and every room and suites faced the mountain. The rooms were accommodated with the basic furniture such as sofa, cupboard, wardrobe, dining table and chair, rocking chair and a small study. There were room services available throughout the day with a simple phone call. The guests can even cook their favorite platter in the attached kitchen. The audio- visual systems provided in the rooms and suites can turn into a mini theatre. The beautiful dcor of the rooms have the ability to impress even a pessimist. The conference hall and the lawn were provided as a complement from the hotel authorizes as a gift to the Geneva Business School because their owner had been a student of the same school. It was an unexpected as well as overwhelming experience for the students to have in the conference the owner of the venue as an alumnus. The facilities available at the hotel were undoubtedly the best any event management company can arrange for and the extra perks that were provided along with had been icing on the cake. Organizing Committee and Event Manager The organizing committee included the senior students of Geneva Business School who are on the verge of getting placed in different organizations. To organize the event in a successful manner and keep up their reputation high the students had approached one of the popular event management groups in the region. XYZ EVENTS had been always a reputed event management group and with the new manager their success graph has become stagnant at the peak with no scope of going down. What can be better than approach such a famous organization to conduct such a prestigious event? In the beginning, the board of directors of the Geneva Business School had approached three students to organize the event. They were asked to form separate teams under their leadership which will make their task easy and doable. The brief profile of each of the members is given below in a tabular form. Student Responsibility S1 Suggesting the venue and selecting dates S2 Make a guest list S3 Inviting the internal members of the institution Thus S1, S2 and S3 had formed a group of 4 under their leadership thus the total strength became 12 all over to fulfill their responsibility properly. Following is a list of the strengths and weaknesses possessed by these 3 leaders. Student Strength Weakness S1 Loud Extrovert Communication expert Calm and cool Has a dominating attitude Try to grab a control over others Tries to take advantage of the power and position S2 A good manager Extremely friendly Has a good rapport with almost everyone inside the school Not a good leader Cannot identify the qualities in other people Weak in managing external affairs S3 Effective communication skills Hard working Responsible Competent Easily loses temper Tries to do all work by himself and thus ruining it at the end With this strengths and weaknesses of the members it can be mentioned that out of the three students no one is a perfect leader and actually needed guidance through this international conference which will help them to cope up with their weaknesses and make them a better leader. To draw up a brief outline of the event management company it can be said that XYZ EVENTS is considered to be among the top event management companies in the region. In their 12 years of journey they have not faced with a single loss. They have the record of managing the top most and high class events in Switzerland and abroad with utmost success. XYZ EVENTS has committed to give their best performance for each task that they are hired and to achieve that 100% success they do not take the responsibility of more than 5 events each month. It requires both detailed attention and a complete scope of the event to decide where to spend the money by keeping within the limit of the allotted budget. The total budget for the international conference was 300K Egyptian Pound and there was no scope to exceed the budget. Within the given amount of money, the company had to keep in mind the requirement for contingence package to cover the incidentals. The following structure reflects the individual expenses in each category of the event. Items Amount (Pre- conference expenses) Transportation cost 10,000 EGP Accommodation cost 25,000 EGP Operating expenses 5000 EGP Equipments and materials 12,000 EGP Other supplying materials and services 20,000 EGP (Main event expenses) Food and catering 15,000 EGP Rent of venue 30,000 EGP (Post- conference expenses) Preparing the report 12,000 EGP Payment of the staff for doing overtime 10,000 EGP Others 25,000 EGP Total cost 164,000 EGP Remaining balance 136,000 EGP As it can be observed in the above structure of budget that, the total expense for the event was 164,000 EGP and the remaining balance was 136,000 EGP. This remaining balance was set aside for any kind of emergency crisis that will be needed to be mitigated immediately. This particular amount was kept on reserve and not allocated to any task but simply used for insuring against other costs. The categories in which the contingency budget can be utilized are given below in a pictorial form. It can be reflected from the picture that there are almost equal chances of risk that can damage the event of Geneva Business School. The potential risk factors include unexpected accidents, sudden change in the itinerary, food crisis as in a definite item is not available on that particular day, increase in the number of guests, sudden change of venue or increase in fuel price resulting in the increase of transportation costs. All these factors had to be kept in mind and a contingency budget was set aside to facing these crises so that it will not be able to hamper the prestigious event in any way (Mller and Martin). It is very important to identify the probable risks that can hamper the event. Until and unless it is a major risk there is no need to change the venue. Preparing a contingency plan refers to preparing for the worst that might arise in the form of natural calamity or any man- made disaster. Planning and predetermination of the risks help in getting over the worst. One i mportant factor that the event manager must consider is that even if his budget exceeds he should never cut on the contingency expenses. This will lead to using money from his pocket if the situation demands so. That is why it is necessary to reduce the contingency and one has to be extremely lucky if he does not need to use his contingency budget which means that his pre- event planning was successful and he could save money as in the case of this particular event. Keeping a lower contingency budget in the international conference of Geneva Business School showed that XYZ EVENTS are an adept in the art of event planning. Sponsorship plays a pivotal role in the process of event management. Without the support of sponsors, an event cannot be successful. Sponsors help in creating brand awareness thus helping to generate preference of the consumer or audience and also responsible for brand loyalty. It is possible for a company to strengthen its brand awareness among the target public by sponsoring an event or organization that is associated with the similar kind of target group. Sponsorship should not be misunderstood as an act of charity; it is an act of contribution with the intention of positive return through ROI (Shone, Anton and Parry). On 4th, 5th and 6th February 2017, Geneva Business School will be conducting an international conference on the topic role of new employees in improving organizational performance. This event will be held in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Geneva. Guests will come from distinguished B- schools and organizations from the European continent. The students who are going to be placed in different organizations will be guided by the eminent managers and leaders on the essential criteria required for working in a business organization. This is the first time that the school is organizing this international conference and they are really looking forward to its grand success. The presence of the eminent lecturers and managers will make the event worthwhile to b attended. This three-day long event will expose the students to the practical field of management which are absolutely different from their theoretical textbooks. This hand- on experience will help the novice in the field of management to overcome any kind of barriers that might come in their way in the course of working in a particular organization there will also be an interactive session which might give an opportunity of placement for the students. We are inviting the companies to contribute money and free publicity which will create a positive image. We hope to have the opportunity of to share our total presentation of sponsorship benefits with your company in the coming days. I will contact you on the specific date and time to call for a meeting and please do not hesitate to call me in the given number or drop me a mail in the given email id. Your presence in the event will be gladly accepted. Promotional strategies and marketing goes side by side when it comes to introduction or launching of new products or services. By promoting services or product, the owner or company can reach its target group using the media. Promotion of the product or services is the main element of success by interacting and engaging the target group (Uysal et al.). For this particular event of international conference at the Geneva business School the XYZ EVENTS had thought of mind- breaking ideas for the publicity of the event as well as the institution. They had selected a theme for the event which was everyone had to wear shades of red, orange or yellow as they carry significant meanings in the business world. The dcor of the venue was also kind of similar to these three colors to create a particular ambience. The content and details of the event was published in the form of brochure and pamphlets which was given as handouts to the internal and external publics. Digital hoardings were designed around the prominent places all over Europe. All small and large business schools were invited via mail and the media houses were sent press release. Advertisement was shown in the TV, in print media and also in the form of text messages in personal devices. The event management company had also developed an app for the ease of connecting to the intere sted individuals which not only gave details of the event but also allowed to register for the event. There were pop- ups shown in the social media to grab the attention of the students. Using these prominent media will be beneficial to publicize the event. All the promotion will be started 3 months prior the event so that the interested candidates can make necessary arrangements. The message of the promotion was- Get over it. This simple message will be understood hen the audience will go through the whole advertisement which means that it is time for the youngsters to get over the mandatory fear of getting placed in an organization and his responsibility toward it. Conclusion Thus it can be summarized from this report that the students who were assigned the task of managing the event of international conference did their part accordingly from contacting the best event management company to participating in the event. The event management company had also put their utmost effort as always to make a glorious event by proper promotion through the effective media channels and keeping up to the budget. Big Bang Essays - Physical Cosmology, Big Bang, Universe

Big Bang It is always a mystery about how the universe began, whether if and when it will end. Astronomers construct hypotheses called cosmological models that try to find the answer. There are two types of models: Big Bang and Steady State. However, through many observational evidences, the Big Bang theory can best explain the creation of the universe. The Big Bang model postulates that about 15 to 20 billion years ago, the universe violently exploded into being, in an event called the Big Bang. Before the Big Bang, all of the matter and radiation of our present universe were packed together in the primeval fireball--an extremely hot dense state from which the universe rapidly expanded.1 The Big Bang was the start of time and space. The matter and radiation of that early stage rapidly expanded and cooled. Several million years later, it condensed into galaxies. The universe has continued to expand, and the galaxies have continued moving away from each other ever since. Today the universe i s still expanding, as astronomers have observed. The Steady State model says that the universe does not evolve or change in time. There was no beginning in the past, nor will there be change in the future. This model assumes the perfect cosmological principle. This principle says that the universe is the same everywhere on the large scale, at all times.2 It maintains the same average density of matter forever. There are observational evidences found that can prove the Big Bang model is more reasonable than the Steady State model. First, the redshifts of distant galaxies. Redshift is a Doppler effect which states that if a galaxy is moving away, the spectral line of that galaxy observed will have a shift to the red end. The faster the galaxy moves, the more shift it has. If the galaxy is moving closer, the spectral line will show a blue shift. If the galaxy is not moving, there is no shift at all. However, as astronomers observed, the more distance a galaxy is located from Earth, the more redshift it shows on the spectrum. This means the further a galaxy is, the faster it moves. Therefore, the universe is expanding, and the Big Bang model seems more reasonable than the Steady State model. The second observational evidence is the radiation produced by the Big Bang. The Big Bang model predicts that the universe should still be filled with a small remnant of radiation left over from the original violent explosion of the primeval fireball in the past. The primeval fireball would have sent strong shortwave radiation in all directions into space. In time, that radiation would spread out, cool, and fill the expanding universe uniformly. By now it would strike Earth as microwave radiation. In 1965 physicists Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson detected microwave radiation coming equally from all directions in the sky, day and night, all year.3 And so it appears that astronomers have detected the fireball radiation that was produced by the Big Bang. This casts serious doubt on the Steady State model. The Steady State could not explain the existence of this radiation, so the model cannot best explain the beginning of the universe. Since the Big Bang model is the better model, the existence and the future of the universe can also be explained. Around 15 to 20 billion years ago, time began. The points that were to become the universe exploded in the primeval fireball called the Big Bang. The exact nature of this explosion may never be known. However, recent theoretical breakthroughs, based on the principles of quantum theory, have suggested that space, and the matter within it, masks an infinitesimal realm of utter chaos, where events happen randomly, in a state called quantum weirdness.4 Before the universe began, this chaos was all there was. At some time, a portion of this randomness happened to form a bubble, with a temperature in excess of 10 to the power of 34 degrees Kelvin. Being that hot, naturally it expanded. For an extremely brief an d short period, billionths of billionths of a second, it inflated. At the end of the period of inflation, the universe may have a diameter of a few centimetres.

BookBubs editorial team reviews each of these submissions in detail to determine the best ones, taking into account a number of factors, including the books critical acclaim, price point, reader re views, author background, and cover design. The editorial team evaluates the subject matter of a book based on historical reader reaction for that genre. Only 10-20% of submissions are selected to be featured on BookBub.BookBub.comReal-time updates from your favorite authorsAnother great perk to the website is the real-time updates from the favorite authors you choose when you set up your account. If the author(s) you choose has a new release or a pre-order available, BookBub will alert you by email and on your personal recommendation page. The individual author pages also show all of the books that have been previously published by that author, along with links to download the digital copies of them. You can also see other BookBub members who follow your favorite author, along with any recommendations given by those members. In this sense, BookBub is a social hub allowing avid readers to find fellow like-minded bookworms who can offer suggestions for their next great read.Recommenda tionsIn addition to the great deals, BookBub alerts you to recommendations from your favorite authors, BookBub editors, and your friends and family (if they are registered on the site, as well). For more well-known authors, such as Gillian Flynn, the site does note that some of these recommendations have not come directly from the author (unless the author has claimed his or her BookBub page). Rather, the information was collected from a data partner. I did notice, however, that many of the author pages contained recommendations that came directly from the author. The BookBub blogWith multiple new posts per week, the BookBub blog is a well-rounded resource for book lovers interested in knowing the latest and greatest reads on the market. Speech Outline Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Speech Outline - Essay Example social networking tools have worked against the societal norms that define the young generation behaviour, because mot believe if they are not using social media, they are outdated. The ‘Fakebook generation’ no longer respects their culture nor their elders, they want to fit in a society that they believe is the best for them without factoring the ideas and guidance from their elders. To some extent, I agree with Mathias, and in most cases I disagree with her. Yes, the â€Å"Fakebook Generation’ could have decayed morals, but exactly what has contributed to that, Facebook alone? Or is it a combination of many factors that have created a fake generation? I believe the society has a lot to do to ensure the youth are not totally lost and that Facebook and other social networks do not make them forget their societal values. Despite most of them believing that they need to use social media to have a sense of belonging among their peers, parents and the society at large has a role to play to ensure the social norms are not thrown to the dogs. Mathias believes in a world view that tends to make a general assumption of the youth, which is not always correct as different countries and different cultures have people behave differently (Kirszner & Mandell,
